about

Eleanoré) is the story of two women, both called Eleanoré who are related but separated by time. London Eleanoré lives in the present time. She receives a letter that relates information about her namesake who served as a soldier in the American Civil War.
Women have served in many wars over time, some accompanied their husbands and did so openly but some dressed as men and served and killed as men did.
On discovery these women risked being sent home but those that concealed their gender successfully and survived conflict could be granted a pension on which they could live for the remainder of their lives, without having to marry in order to survive financially.

lyrics

ELEANORE LYRICS

She steps quickly off the 68 bus
Sweeps her hair from her face
Kicks off the dust
The latch on the door is metal and rust

Stoops to pick up the post on the mat
Stares at the letter
Benjamin Franklin stares back
from North Carolina, in black

FROM FAITH, CAROLINA
TO LAVENDER HILL
WOMAN TO WOMAN
BOTH STANDING STILL

She runs quickly through the gap in the trees
Stops, takes aim and shoots,
Quickly reloads her Springfield
Her rifle is hard to conceal

Calm descends on the battlefield
Confederate soldiers move through the trees
To the west
Drops her gun to the ground
As she sees the boy
With the flag and the blood on his chest

FROM FAITH CAROLINA...

Two moments in history
The Atlantic between
Lost in the ashes
Of what might have been

FROM FAITH CAROLINA...
